The carrying capacity for a standard Sterling truck rack is at least 3,500 pounds. AKA: more than your truck bed can carry.
As a test, we placed a full pallet of sand on one of our standard racks (pictured). We weighed the sand on the pallet and our lead welder took one big step for man (with safety measures in place, of course) and stood on top of the sand on the rack. The rack showed no signs of stress: no bowing, no bending, no creaking, nothing! Total weight? 3,536 pounds. And it could have held more. Easily. (We don't recommend that you do this, however. The carrying capacity for most truck beds is about 2,000 pounds.) |
...And yes, it can hold a ladder.
|
|
Sterling Equipment is not to be held liable if a customer overloads their truck's carrying capacity. Please do not attempt to load more weight on the truck rack than your vehicle can safely carry.

Quick Release Pins [MOST POPULAR]
These pins replace the bolting function of the bed crossover bars, allowing you to quickly remove the crossover bars with ease. This is a great option for those who need to remove the bed crossover bars frequently. |
Ratchet Straps
Heavy duty ratchet straps that are bolted to the side of the rack. They provide a quick option to secure your load and prevent your employees from losing them! |
Plywood Shelf
A 3-part removable shelf that hangs below the rack over the bed, with a stopper in the front and back, intended for carrying 8' plywood sheets. Plywood shelves work best on long beds, but shorter beds can be accommodated. Contact us for more information! |
Ladder Hangers
L-shaped arms that are attached to the side of the truck rack intended for hanging ladders. This option is great for those who need a ladder for their job, but do not want to sacrifice valuable rack space. |
Pipe Stop Mesh Nose
Expanded metal mesh is added to the front of the rack and the bottom of the rack above the cab to prevent pipes from falling out of the front. This is a popular addition with plumbers. |
Mesh Over Cab
Expanded metal mesh is welded to the truck rack over the cab of the truck. The mesh creates a floor between the cab of the truck and the rack. |
